Congregations for Children

Dear Advocates for Children:

Congregations for Children, an advocacy program endorsed by our bishop to encourage local community involvement around children’s issues, is looking for congregations interested in local involvement and statewide networking about the serious needs of Mississippi’s children.  Together with the Mississippi Conference of the United Methodist Church and the Jackson Catholic Diocese, the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi is hoping to create a strong network and presence in our state as we raise the awareness about the dangers facing Mississippi’s children.

We are attempting to build a diocesan network that encourages congregational involvement with “at-risk” children.   This will take on different forms in each county and municipality; it may involve local schools, mental health facilities, hospitals, juvenile justice centers etc.

I want to offer my time and services to come to your congregation to talk about Congregations for Children and to show a most amazing video which Coalition for Children’s Welfare produced.  The video is entitled Mississippi, I Am YOUR Child and was funded in large part by the Walker Foundation.

I think you will be astounded by the video and hopefully will feel the call by our bishop to work for, and in most cases, continue working for Mississippi’s children.

If you are interested in learning more about Congregations for Children and how your congregation can become a part of the network, call me at the diocesan office; 601-948-5954.  I look forward to hearing from you.

If you would like to become part of our advocacy list serve so as to receive up to date legislative and judicial actions around children's issues, please email me at cbstew@bellsouth.net with your email address and I will add you to the list or try the following:
