GOV. WM. WINTER TO TALK AT MEDGAR EVERS COMMEM.

by The Rev. Chuck Culpepper

Four Jackson-area Episcopal churches are joining together to commemorate the life of Medgar Evers in a service of Racial Reconciliation at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 8. The service to be held at All Saints’ Church is the result of the combined efforts of All Saints’, St. Mark’s, St. Christopher’s, and St. Alexis'. Medgar Evers PhotoFormer governor William Winter will preach the sermon and Bishop Duncan M. Gray, III, will preside.  The liturgy and music for the service will focus on the continuing work of racial reconciliation.  “The work to which Medgar Evers dedicated his life and for which he died has not been completed, “said the Rev. Chuck Culpepper of St. Alexis’.  “We will gather to repent our failures, to celebrate our victories, and to renew our determination to move forward together.”

This service has been conducted for the last two years by All Saints’ and St. Mark’s.  This year those churches are being joined by St. Christopher’s and St. Alexis’. The public is invited to participate in the service and to enjoy the barbeque/potluck dinner and live music that will follow the service.  There will be no charge for dinner.  All Saints’ Church is located at 147 Daniel Lake Boulevard in south Jackson.
